10th-seeded Jannik Sinner stunned top seed Carlos Alcaraz in a 6-7 (5), 6-4, 6-2 victory to book his spot in the final of the Miami Open. Sinner’s triumph put an end to Alcaraz’s 10-match winning streak leading up to the semifinal.

In addition to remaining consistent with his reliable baseline game, Sinner also managed to gain an edge over Alcaraz after the ATP world number one began to experience cramping as well as a finger injury during the decisive third set. According to Alcaraz, the cramping began after he took a five-minute bathroom break after losing the second set.

“When you stop for five minutes, I know it wasn’t good for me,” Alcaraz said after the match. “I struggled with some problems.” The 19-year-old Spaniard made nine double faults and 27 unforced errors during the semifinal match.

Sinner, who made it to the Miami Open final last year, will face fourth seed Daniil Medvedev on Sunday. Medvedev has defeated the Italian in each of their five previous matches.
