Chicago Sky’s rookie Angel Reese continues to put her stamp on the WNBA. After putting up another dominant performance on the glass in a 79–74 loss to the Minnesota Lynx, Reese now owns the league record for most rebounds in a single season.
Grabbing her sixth rebound of the game in the second quarter to push her season total to 405 boards and surpass Sylvia Fowles’ previous record of 404. Fowles set her record during the 2018 season.
Reese ended up finishing the game with 17 points and 19 rebounds.
“Coming into [the WNBA], I just knew my motor,” Reese said after the game. “Offensive rebounds and defensive rebounds is something that I know I can always do. I knew it was going to translate right away.
Angel Reese has been considered one of the candidates for the Rookie of the Year award, and her rebounding ability has been a major part of that. She now has 24 double-doubles this season and has previously become the first player in WNBA history to have three consecutive games with 20 or more rebounds.
Reese is currently averaging 13.3 points, 13.1 rebounds, and 1.8 assists per game. However, her great performances haven’t been able to lift the Sky, which has been on a dreadful run in the past weeks. Chicago is currently at 11-21 with six straight losses and eight defeats in the past 10 games.
