After an extended holdout that kept him out of Cowboys camp during nearly all of the team’s preseason, sources have confirmed that the two parties have agreed to a massive contract extension.

Elliott and the Cowboys had been in a stalemate until Wednesday. The star third-year running back was looking for a new deal after three productive first seasons in the league and wanted a new deal to reward his hard work. The Ohio State alum finally achieved that goal.

The new deal includes six years guaranteed and up to $90 million including incentives. If the two parties agree to do so, the contract could run up to eight years and be worth up to $103 million.

Outspoken Cowboys owner Jerry Jones had no choice but to give in to the star’s demands. The team couldn’t risk a holdout that dragged into the season with the two-time Pro Bowler.

After agreeing to the deal, Jones said “Well, I just turned my pockets out upstairs. It means I’m a $100 million lighter as of this morning.” He went on to justify the deal, stating “Zeke arguably has been our best player. I’m not trying to be unfair to anybody else, but he’s an incremental part to our success.”

Elliott should be ready to go for the Cowboys’ season opener on Sunday against the New York Giants.
