Tottenham Hotspur defeated Arsenal 2-1 during their hard-fought clash at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Monday. This result saw Spurs leapfrog the Gunners in order to take eighth place on the Premier League table. Arsenal now trail Spurs by two points, with 50 points in total after 35 games.

For many pundits, this result came slightly unexpectedly, considering that the home side went into the clash with an inconsistent string of results. Spurs’ victories over West Ham United and Everton were overshadowed by a defeat at the hands of Sheffield United and a disappointing goalless draw with strugglers Bournemouth.

Arsenal, on the other hand, went into the match in decent form. Since the Premier League restart, the Gunners have racked up wins against Sheffield United, Wolverhampton Wanderers, and Norwich City, along with a draw against Leicester City.

In the 16th minute, Alexandre Lacazette opened the scoring for the Gunners. Just three minutes later, Spurs equalized courtesy of a Son Heung-min strike. While Ben Davies and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang came close to scoring for their respective sides, it was only in the 81st minute that Spurs found a winner when Toby Alderweireld scored with his header from a corner.
