The Dallas Stars have announced that they’ll not be addressing their current coaching situation until the end of the current season. Currently, the Stars are all tied with the Vegas Golden Knights going into Game 3 of the Western Conference final. Even if they make it to the Stanley Cup Final, the team is still not expected to alter their deadline.

General manager Jim Nill praised current coach Rick Bowness for the job he’s done in getting the Stars to the Western Conference finals. He explained, “We have this agreement, we’re going to sit down end of the year. I want to talk to Rick. Does he want to continue to be a head coach? But what he’s done right now, he’s made a strong statement.”

Bowness was promoted to the role of head coach on December 10 last year, when former coach Jim Montgomery was fired for unprofessional conduct. Since then, Montgomery reported that he’d been receiving counseling for alcohol abuse and that he’d checked himself into an in-patient residential program.

Nill delivered much praise to Bowness for his quick integration into the coaching role. He explained, “When you see the players react to a coach and decisions he has to make, I know Rick has the full support of the players, and that’s very important.”
