The Pittsburgh Steelers’ dreams for a perfect regular season came to a halt on Monday night after they were upset at home by a 23-17 final score to the Washington Football Team.

Pittsburgh had won the first eleven games of its season and had a chance to become the first team to finish with a 16-0 regular season record since the New England Patriots. However, it was one of the most unlikely opponents that stopped them dead in their tracks.

Washington slowed the Steelers down, and did just enough on offense in the second half to escape with a win. In the process, they moved to a record of 5-7, and now find themselves tied with the New York Giants for the NFC East division lead.

After trailing 14-3 at halftime, a Peyton Barber touchdown reduced the deficit to 14-10. Despite a Steelers field goal early on in the fourth quarter, Washington tied the game with an Alex Smith touchdown pass and then saw Dustin Hopkins make two field goals to seal their win.

It just wasn’t Pittsburgh’s day, despite a 305 yard, 2 touchdown passing performance from Ben Roethlisberger.

The Steelers will look to get back on track as they travel to the Bills in a tough road matchup on Sunday night, while Washington will travel to San Francisco.
