When Pittsburgh Steelers signed safety Morgan Burnett to a three-year, $14.25 million contract last March, they thought they were covered at the position for at least few years. Fast forward 12 months later, and Burnett is already packing his bags.
Burnett’s agent Kevin Conner recently talked with ESPN‘s Adam Schefter and said that the 30-year-old was informed by the Steelers that he will be released by April 1. According to Conner, the release was requested by his client after the two sides tried and failed to work out a trade to another team.
Morgan Burnett supposed to be a starter upon joining Pittsburgh but was forced to miss his four out of the first six games of 2018 NFL season due to injuries. He returned to play a lot less prominent role which resulted in only 30 tackles and six pass deflections in 11 games.
Burnett started his career with the Green Bay Packers, who took him in the third round of 2010 draft. He spent the most of his time in Green Bay as the team’s starting safety before deciding to join the Steelers last year. His career stats include 747 tackles, 50 passes defended, 7.5 sacks, and nine interceptions.
