After spending the last six seasons as an integral part of FC Barcelona’s front line, it appears that striker Luis Suarez’s days with the club are numbered as he has reportedly come close to a deal with La Liga rivals Atletico Madrid.

Suarez, who was told by new FC Barcelona head coach Ronald Koeman in the preseason that he would not be a part of the Blaugrana squad, reportedly came to an agreement with the club to terminate the rest of his contract in order to allow him to go to another team.

That team will reportedly be Atletico Madrid, who will pair Suarez with young phenom Joao Felix in a bid for the team to make a Champions League and La Liga title run.

The 33-year-old striker, who scored 21 goals in 36 appearances between La Liga and the Champions League last season, was reportedly a top target for Atletico coach Diego Simeone once it became clear that he would not be continuing with Barcelona in the future.

Suarez reportedly rejected a lucrative offer from Inter Miami to join the new club and become the highest-paid player in the history of the MLS.

While the deal still hasn’t been officially announced, it appears that Suarez’s next career step will take him to the Spanish capital.
