The Phoenix Suns will once again have to find a way to remain competitive without their superstar, Kevin Durant, on the floor. Reportedly, Durant is set to miss between one and two weeks while he recovers from an ankle sprain.
Durant got hurt during Tuesday’s game against the San Antonio Spurs. Suns’ head coach Mike Budenholzer told reporters that the injury happened when Durant stepped on a Spurs player’s foot.
“I think he stepped on somebody’s foot there in transition, and at halftime, it stiffened up,” said Budenholzer while declining to project how much time his best player will miss.
This will be Durant’s second spell on the sidelines this season. When healthy, he has been enjoying a strong campaign, averaging 25.8 points, 6.7 rebounds, and 3.1 assists while making 44.9% of his three-point attempts. His performances are proving to be key for the Suns, as they are 1-6 without him on the floor.
The good news for the Suns is that All-Star Bradley Beal is finally healthy and ready to play after a spell on the sidelines in November. They will hope that Beal and fellow All-Star Devin Booker can hold down the fort until Durant can return.
After starting the 2024-25 season with an 8-1 record, the Suns came back to Earth. They are currently sixth in the Western Conference standings with a 12-8 record.
