The month-long saga about the future of Aaron Rodgers has finally come to an end. According to multiple reports, the New York Jets have made a trade with the Green Bay Packers that will see them land Rodgers as their quarterback for the 2023 NFL season.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports that the deal will see the Jets give up three picks in this year’s draft—No. 13, No. 42, and No. 207—as well as a conditional second-rounder in 2024. In exchange, they are getting Rodgers and No. 16 and No. 170 picks in this year’s draft.

The Jets and the Packers have been working on this trade ever since Rodgers proclaimed that he wanted to play in New York in early March. While a deal always seemed like it was bound to happen, the two teams spent the previous several weeks trying to agree on a proper compensation. The negotiations even stalled at one point before resuming in recent days and leading to a positive outcome.

While some might argue that the Jets overpaid for Rodgers, the fact is that they are getting a player who is just one season removed from back-to-back MVP awards. The 39-year-old player had a down year in 2022 by his standards, but he was asked to play without a true No. 1 wide receiver, and the Packers struggled in all units. Having an abundance of young talents and championship-caliber defense, the Jets can safely assume that Rodgers is the missing piece that will bring them their first Super Bowl since 1968.

Green Bay, on the other hand, will move forwards with 2020’s first-round pick Jordan Love as their new quarterback. Love played 10 games since coming to NFL, including one start, and has thrown for 606 yards, three touchdowns, and three interceptions.

The New York Jets are reportedly in talks with the Green Bay Packers over a proposed trade involving Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers.

According to sources, the conversations were expected to commence on Tuesday, however, there is no indication of the likelihood of the potential trade.

Rodgers has not made any announcements regarding his future with the Packers. It is still unknown whether Rodgers would like to remain with the Packers or if retirement from the NFL is on the table.

Currently, Rodgers is under contract with Green Bay through 2024 for $108.8 million. While the contract technically runs through 2026, both 2025 and 2026 are considered “dummy” years for cap purposes. This season, Rodgers will take home a guaranteed $59.5 million, with $58.3 million coming in the form of an option bonus.

Rodgers has been a topic of conversation for the Jets since the beginning of the offseason when owner Woody Johnson told reporters that he would be willing to invest in the Packers star. The Jets have also confirmed that Zach Wilson, drafted No. 2 overall in 2021, is still not being considered for the starting quarterback role.

Running back Aaron Jones has committed himself to the Green Bay Packers, agreeing on Friday to a salary reduction for the 2023 season in order to remain with the team, his agents Drew Rosenhaus and Ryan Matha confirmed.

Scheduled to make $16 million, Jones agreed to a pay cut that would see him earn $11 million for the coming season, including an $8.52 million signing bonus.

“The way he leads that football team, his consistency, is amazing,” Packers general manager Brian Gutekunst said of Jones, adding that he expected to see him remain with the team. “In this league, you can’t have just one [running back]. Obviously, having AJ [Dillon], it’s nice to have that one-two punch. Aaron, when we got first here, you’re thinking, ‘Hey, this probably won’t last long because the way he’s built and his size,’ and he just keeps on defying the odds.”

Last season, Jones was in fine form, posting his third 1,000-yard rushing campaign since 2019. In total, he gained a career-high 1,121 yards while completing seven touchdowns.

The Green Bay Packers coach has expressed his openness to bringing former offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett back to the team. Hackett was dismissed from his role as Denver Broncos coach last month after spending less than a year in the role.

“I think I’ve definitely entertained all that,” LaFleur said on Monday of Hackett’s proposed return. “I think you can never have enough great coaches, and certainly you guys know how I feel about Nathaniel and the job he did here. But again, just getting started into the evaluation phase. I did talk to him after he got let go in Denver. I know that he needs some family time as well.”

LaFleur and Hackett worked together to improve the Packers’ frontline from 2019 until 2021. While Hackett served as offensive coordinator, LaFleur was known to call offensive plays as well in an effort to get the most out of the players.

Aside from the prospect of Hacket’s return to Wisconsin, LaFleur also spoke of the confidence that he has in the abilities of defensive coordinator Joe Barry. The Packers have missed out on a playoff spot this season.

The Green Bay Packers decided to say goodbye to veteran wideout Sammy Watkins despite their lack of depth at the position. The Packers released Watkins on Monday and signed running back Patrick Taylor to the active roster in a corresponding move.

Watkins, who came to Green Bay in the offseason, had 13 receptions for 206 yards in 2022. He played only nine games, spending time on injured reserve due to a hamstring injury.

The Packers releasing Watkins comes as a surprise, but it appears that the 29-year-old player became an odd man out after the rest of the WR corps returned to health. Rookie Romeo Dubs is expected to return to the field this week, while this year’s second-round pick Christian Watson is playing spectacular football following injury issues of his own earlier in the campaign. The Packers’ two veteran wideouts, Allen Lazard and Randall Cobb are also healthy and ready to go.

Sammy Watkins was once an elite WR talent out of Clemson, who was selected fourth overall by the Buffalo Bills in 2014. He delivered on the promise early on, combining for 125 catches, 2,029 yards, and 15 touchdowns in his first two years as a pro. However, it was all down for Watkins after that.

Watkins missed eight games in his third season due to a foot injury and has struggled to stay healthy ever since. He never played a full season of football again while becoming a journeyman that also suited up for the Los Angeles Rams, the Kansas City Chiefs, and the Baltimore Ravens. The Florida native did win a Super Bowl ring with the Chiefs in 2019, delivering 14 catches for 288 and a TD during the postseason.

Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers had to exit from his team’s 40-33 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles early after picking up a rib injury.

After leading a drive that led to a field goal during the third quarter of the game, Rodgers appeared to be in some discomfort. He then jogged off the field and was escorted to the team locker room by the Packers’ medical staff.

Rodgers was X-rayed shortly after the Packers’ loss on Sunday, however, the medical staff stated that it was difficult to tell in the X-rays if he had suffered any fractured ribs. The X-rays did confirm, however, that Rodgers did not have a punctured lung.

The quarterback later revealed that two plays caused his discomfort. The first one in the second quarter saw Rodgers get hit and land awkwardly while the second saw him get sacked by both Haason Reddick and Brandon Graham.

“I knew that he was in a lot of pain,” Packers coach Matt LaFleur revealed. This is one of the toughest dudes that I’ve ever been around, so I don’t ever for one second question his toughness, his desire to be out there, his desire to compete. Matter of fact, he apologized to me and I’m like, ‘Don’t ever apologize to me.’ Like, I’ll never question that.”

The Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers has confirmed that his right thumb is broken. While the Packers’ star has been playing despite his injury for over a month, he finally had to come to terms with the reality of being sidelined following confirmation of this news on Wednesday.

It doesn’t make a difference. You saw the tape on my thumb. Didn’t make a difference.” Rodgers said in response to being questioned about his decision to continue playing through his injury.

Rodgers was injured upon being sacked by linebacker Oshane Ximines during the final play of the Packers’ 27-22 loss to the New York Giants on October 9. While attempting a Hail Mary, Rodgers got hit in his throwing arm by Ximines, who forced a fumble.

Following the incident, Rodgers was asked on October 26 whether his thumb was broken. “My thumb is hurt”, Rodgers replied, refusing to deliver any confirmation on the extent of his injury.

The quarterback still insists that he has suffered worse injuries in the past, and he was able to participate in practice on Wednesday after an extended break.

The Green Bay Packers are 3-3 to start the season and in desperate need of a win against the Washington Commanders on Sunday. However, getting it might be more challenging than expected, especially since the Packers are set to be thinner than ever in the wide receiver position.

Green Bay announced that they would enter the Commander’s game without rookie Christian Watson and veteran Randall Cobb. Watson, the team’s second-round pick in 2022, is dealing with a hamstring injury and hasn’t played since Week 5. Cobb, on the other hand, recently suffered an ankle injury and is expected to miss multiple weeks.

Watson’s absence might not hurt too much, considering that the North Dakota State product largely struggled in his first year as a pro. But Cobb has been one of the most reliable targets for quarterback Aaron Rodgers in the first six weeks, and not having him on the field will definitely cause some problems for the Packers.

The good news for the Packers is that offseason acquisition Sammy Watkins is ready to return to the field. Watkins played the first two games of 2022, grabbing six receptions for 111 yards, before going down with a hamstring injury.

The Packers are entering the game on a two-game losing streak, with both of their losses coming from New York teams. The Commanders are 2-4 and have beaten Green Bay’s rivals Chicago Bears last week.

The Green Bay Packers are 3-1, but it’s safe to say that the team hasn’t looked all that convincing to start the 2022 NFL season. This can be especially said for their star quarterback Aaron Rodgers, who hasn’t been producing his trademark big plays throughout the first four weeks.

It appears that Rodgers, who is averaging a career-low 6.2 air yards per passing attempt, is well aware of this and hopes to right the wrongs in the upcoming game vs. the New York Giants in London on Sunday.

While speaking with reporters on Friday, Rodgers said that he would have a chat with Green Bay’s head coach Matt LaFleur and try to make his case for more big plays.

“Hell yeah, of course,” Rodgers told reporters. “Matt’s kind of in a grumpy mood right now. When he gets a little bit of rest and will be in a better mood, we’ll talk about airing it out a little bit more.”

After delivering back-to-back MVP seasons, Aaron Rodgers has looked rather sluggish in 2022. He threw for 935 yards and six touchdowns, alongside three interceptions. To put things in context, the 38-year-old had four picks in the entire 2021. Rodgers also has a QBR of 44.8, his lowest mark in the first four games of the season since he became a starter in 2008.

Former Green Bay Packers linebacker Clay Matthews is still not ready to officially say goodbye to professional football. But unofficially, Matthews considers himself retired from NFL.

During a recent chat with Packers Wire, Matthews, who is Green Bay’s all-time leader in sacks, told beat writer Brandon Carwile that his “playing days are over.”

Matthews entered the league in 2009 as the Packers’ first-round pick and went on to have a decorated 10 years in Green Bay. He won a Super Bowl ring there while also making the Pro Bowl six times and earning two All-Pro honors. Matthews left the Packers after the 2018 season and still holds the franchise record with 83.5 career sacks.

Matthews spent the 2019 campaign with the Los Angeles Rams and had a productive year that saw him put up 8.0 sacks. Despite this, the Rams decided to release him in the offseason, and Matthews remained out of the league since then.

According to Matthews, he hoped that he might get a shot at playing one more year in Green Bay after and finish his career as a Packer. The 36-year-old even talked with the team’s defensive coordinator Joe Barry ahead of the 2021 season about a possible return, but nothing happened afterward.

“Nothing ever manifested, so I think ultimately there might have been powers above that didn’t want that to happen,” he explained. “But yeah, there was a brief glimmer of hope of coming back. That didn’t happen, but it’s all good. But I’m at peace with my career.”
