]]>“Always, when this kind [of] award comes with a win, it’s even more fun,” Doncic said after the game. “It was a tough road game, and we won. So, outside of the 10K and 50 points, we won the game. So, I’m really happy.” This was the 24-year-old player’s sixth 50-point game, with only Michael Jordan (nine) and LeBron James (eight) racking up more.
In addition to his 50-point haul, Doncic grabbed 15 assists, 6 rebounds, 4 steals, and 3 blocks against the Suns. This win sees the Mavs sit in fifth place in the Western Conference at 18-12. Dallas next plays against the Cleveland Cavaliers on Wednesday night.

]]>This comes after Doncic suffered a left ankle sprain during the Mavericks’ 99-95 win over the Phoenix Suns on Thursday. After going down in the opening minutes of the game, Doncic had to leave the court of play, remaining sidelined for the remainder of the game.
Mavs coach Jason Kidd said that Doncic remained in “good spirits” after the game and that he underwent an X-ray that turned up negative. He is expected to be day-to-day going forward with what has been listed as a “mild sprain”.
“He looked good, he looked fine,” Kidd said of Doncic following his injury. “But we’ll see how he feels as we go forward.”
Prior to his injury, Doncic was the NBA’s leading scorer, averaging 33.8 points per game. Following his first scoreless game, Doncic’s average has dropped to 33.0 points per game, putting him behind Philaelphia’s Joel Embiid who is averaging 33.4 points per game.

]]>Doncic scored two rebounds and two free throws in the final 4.5 seconds, thereby handing Mavericks a last-minute comeback victory to further solidify their lead over the fifth-placed Sacramento Kings in the Eastern Conference standings.
“It’s incredible,” Mavericks center Christian Wood said in response to Doncic’s dominant performance against the Spurs. “In my seven years in the league, I’ve never seen anybody do what he’s able to do. He’s on an incredible run. He’s playing like an MVP. Clearly one of the best players in the league.”
This is the third time that Doncic has scored 50 points or more in the last three games, including a 60 point haul during the Mavs’ overtime victory over the New York Knicks on Tuesday night. As a result, Doncic becomes the first player in NBA history to 250 points, 50 assists, and 50 rebounds in five consecutive games.
The Mavericks next play the Houston Rockets on Monday night.

]]>Paul picked up two fouls in the first quarter before getting called for two more before the end of the first half. His fourth foul came with one second remaining in the second period after bumping Mavs’ star Luka Doncic while trying to pick up his own miss.
Just over two minutes in the second half, Paul got his fifth foul and swiftly exited the game. He didn’t return until early in the final period but didn’t stick around for too long. The 37-year-old player made a loose ball foul with 8:58 left on the clock and had to head to the locker room.
The Suns struggled with scoring efficiency and defensive stops without Paul on the floor. Devin Booker had 35 points, but only three other Phoenix players managed to double digits and no one else had more than 15.
Dallas didn’t rely solely on Doncic, who had 26 points with seven rebounds and 11 assists, like in some previous games. Instead, five more players stepped up to score 10 or more points, including Dorian Finney-Smith, who had 24 points and eight boards.
The Mavs vs. the Suns series continues on Tuesday with Game 5 in Phoenix.

]]>Doncic got hurt while making a pass late in the third quarter. He made a drive towards the basket while being followed by a couple of Spurs players and decided to jump and dish the ball to Reggie Bullock behind the arc. The 23-year-old player immediately grabbed his calf after the play and asked for a time-out. Then, following a brief discussion with Dallas’ staff, he headed to the locker room.
According to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, the Mavs are optimistic that the injury isn’t serious and expect Doncic to be ready for the playoffs. The injury has been officially described as a “strained left calf.”
Doncic’s teammates are also hopeful that they will have their best player for the First Round clash against the Utah Jazz.
“For some reason, I feel like he’ll be ready to go,” said guard Jalen Brunson. “Knowing the competitor that he is, I feel like he’ll be ready. It’s unfortunate, but a competitor like that you can’t keep down for long.”
This season, Luka Doncic had another strong campaign, averaging 28.4 points, 9.1 rebounds, and 8.7 assists per game. He earned his third consecutive All-Star nod while propelling the Mavs to a 52-30 record and 4th seed in the Western Conference.

]]>After trailing 38-35 in the first quarter, the Clippers bounced back in the second and were up by eight at halftime. The Mavs responded with a 19-6 run, only to break down offensively and defensively towards the end of the period.
Following a 24-4 blitz, the Clippers took over the control of the game and then managed to hold off Dallas in the final quarter with some clutch threes by Reggie Jackson and Marcus Morris Sr.
Kawhi Leonard followed up his 45-point performance in Game 6 with a near triple-double in Game 7. He had 28 points, 10 rebounds, and nine assists and played some great defense on Mavs phenom Luka Doncic down the stretch.
“It’s all about the moment,” said Leonard after the game. “You got to be aggressive all night and don’t try to make the game be perfect.”
The Clippers also had huge help from their bench, getting 24 points combined from Terance Mann and Luke Kennard alone.
Doncic put another ridiculous performance for Dallas, finishing the game with 46 points, 14 assists, and seven rebounds. And while the Mavs’ other four starters also reached double digits in points, the production of their bench was abysmal. All they got was four points and two rebounds from Dwight Powell, while Jalen Brunson managed two points, four boards, and one assist.
The Los Angeles Clippers will now look to further cement their status as a championship contender in a second-round matchup against the No. 1 seeded Utah Jazz.
The Mavericks are back to the drawing board and need to figure out how to prevent another early playoff exit next season.

]]>The Clippers again didn’t have a response for Mavericks phenom Luka Doncic, who stole the show with a 39-point performance. LA head coach Ty Lue tried several tactics to stop Doncic, including occasionally assigning Kawhi Leonard, the two-time NBA Defensive Player of the Year, on him, but nothing seemed to work.
When the Clippers managed to slow down Doncic’s scoring, he torched them in other ways. The 22-year-old star was getting his teammates involved, dishing seven assists while also grabbing seven boards in the process.
Doncic had help in Tim Hardaway Jr, who delivered an impressive outing of 28 points and six three-pointers. Kristaps Porzingis pitched in with 20 points, four boards, and three steals.
Kawhi Leonard headlined the Clippers by dropping 41 points, including 30 points in the first half, while Paul George scored 28 points and had 12 rebounds. Backup Reggie Jackson was the team’s only other player in double digits with 15 points.
Mavericks now have all the momentum on their side and will look to use the most of their chance to wrap up the series in front of their home audience. The Clippers, on the other hand, are on a five-game losing streak in the postseason (including last year) and are in danger of suffering yet another shocking playoff exit following last year’s meltdown against the Denver Nuggets.

]]>This is also true for the starters. Portland Trailblazers superstar Damian Lillard is having an incredible season, and no one in their right mind would ever imagine that he wouldn’t become an All-Star. However, he wasn’t selected to be a Western Conference starter—and his team is pretty ticked off about that.
Even though Lillard is averaging 29.8 points and 7.7 assists a game, including some serious clutch bombers, he was ousted in favor of Dallas Mavericks young phenom Luka Doncic.
Even more impressive is the fact that Lillard has led the Blazers to an 18-10 record, despite injuries to their key players CJ McCollum and Jusuf Nurkic.
Fans of Dame Dolla were hoping that this would finally be the year that he got the starting nod, but it wasn’t. The fans voted in Luka instead—but if we know anything about Dame, he’ll use this as motivation to take his game to an even higher level.

]]>The players selected to start at the All-Star are looking pretty darn good this season. Starting for the Western Conference will be the LA Lakers’ LeBron James, the Denver Nuggets’ Nikola Jokic, the LA Clippers’ Kawhi Leonard, the Golden State Warriors’ Stephen Curry, and the Dallas Mavericks’ Luka Doncic.
Starting for the Eastern Conference will be the Milwaukee Bucks’ Giannis Antetokounmpo, the Philadelphia 76ers’ Joel Embiid, the Washington Wizards’ Bradley Beal, and the Brooklyn Nets’ Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving.
Kevin Durant was the leading vote-getter for the Eastern Conference, while LeBron James received the most votes out West. As a result, the pair will each serve as captains for their respective conferences.
When the NBA announced that the All-Star game was going to take place, James initially called it “a slap in the face”, believing that it was wrong for the event to happen during the pandemic. However, it looks as though the NBA won’t buckle down, and James in turn will be the main attraction.

]]>Coming off a stellar season, many NBA experts are predicting that the young Slovenian phenom will snag the MVP crown this year. At this point, nothing would really surprise us with this guy.
The Greek Freak is coming off winning the aforementioned MVP award two years in a row. On one hand, that suggests he’ll win it again. On the other hand, voters may get bored and decide to give it to someone else.
Harden has dominated the league in scoring over the last few years, with only one MVP to show for it. With a vengeance to prove himself in the playoffs, could this be the year he gets his second?
Somehow shockingly, the two-time NBA Finals MVP has never won a regular season MVP. Perhaps that says more about his clutch factor in the postseason, but for the sake of his legacy, hopefully this year will be the one that he finally gets it.
LeBron was awarded the MVP a total of four times throughout his career. Voters have backed off from him since, but if he leads the Lakers to the top of the West again, they may give him his fifth.
Coming off of a year-long injury, Durant is certainly a wild card. Then again… he’s Kevin Durant, so he’s certainly a candidate for this prestigious award.
