]]>According to Carroll, the injury is a spiral crack and is similar to that of running back Rashaad Penny in 2018. As a result, he believes that Lockett could return in as little as two weeks if surgery is performed.
“There’s a couple different ways that they can do the surgery,” Carroll revealed. “One of the ways gives him a chance to be back. Remember Rashaad Penny … had an injury similar, very similar. So they’ve already floated that thought and they’re going to talk about all the options and all that and we’re going to love him up and take care of him. Whatever the right thing to do to take care of him, we’re going to do.”
During eight NFL seasons, Lockett has only ever missed two games; one in 2016 due to a broken leg and one in 2021 due to COVID-19.

]]>The Titans had been looking for an upgrade on their defensive line as they look to make another deep playoff run in the 2020 season, and the South Carolina native ended up being a perfect fit for Mike Vrabel and his team. They landed on Clowney, signing him to a deal worth $12 million.
Clowney, who made three consecutive Pro Bowls between 2016 and 2018 with the division rival Houston Texans, spent last season playing for the Seattle Seahawks and saw his production decline a bit. The former #1 overall pick recorded only 3 sacks and 31 total tackles in the Pacific Northwest.
The 27-year-old player’s 1-year deal with the Titans will provide him with the perfect opportunity to rebuild his market value while helping out a team that will certainly be glad to have his services in 2020.
It remains to be seen if Clowney will be available for the Titans’ opener next Monday night against the Denver Broncos, but he is expected to join the team in practice this week.

]]>The Number 1 overall pick in 2017 has proved that he is one of the best pass rushers in the NFL. In 37 games the 24-year-old player has compiled 30.5 sacks, 65 QB hits, and 32 tackles for loss.
His rare combination of size, power, and speed makes him a threat to any offense, and the young DE has gotten better every year. Although he is famous for instigating an ugly brawl last year with the Steelers in which he swung his helmet at Mason Rudolph’s head, the Browns are showing that they believe in his abilities both on and off the field with this new record contract expected to be finalized very soon.

]]>According to ESPN’s Dan Graziano, the NFL Players’ Association (NFLPA) had a meeting late last week during which it discussed the possibility of having no preseason. The NFLPA Board of player representatives ended up taking a vote on the matter and unanimously approved to make a recommendation to the league to cancel all preseason games.
Graziano adds that despite this recommendation and players’ wishes, the NFL has no obligation to change its plans.
The league and NFLPA are currently discussing a number of things ahead of the NFL’s return to activities. This includes finalizing health and safety protocols and ensuring a safe return to practice and play during these testing times.
So far, NFL decided to remain on schedule with the training camps, which should open at the end of the month and the start of the 2020 season. However, the league decided to make some tweaks, including the expansion of practice squads and previously mentioned reduction of preseason games.

]]>According to the last collective bargaining agreement, the practice squads of NFL teams are already set to increase from the current 10 to 12 players in 2020. However, according to NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo, the league is now considering allowing up to 16 players on the practice squad so the teams could handle coronavirus-related challenges better.
Garafolo adds that the NFL Players’ Association would have to approve the expansion of practice squad roster, but that this shouldn’t be an issue as it would create more jobs for the players.
Expanding the practice squads to 16 players would be beneficial for both the league and the players even in normal times. The teams’ front office and coaches would have a better chance to evaluate talent while receiving a more dependable pool of reserves in case of injuries on the active rosters.
As previously mentioned, players would have more jobs available to them and more chances to showcase their skills. This would be beneficial for both the veterans who still want to play as well as young players who are looking to break into the league.

]]>The post Redskins Release Veteran CB Josh Norman appeared first on yoursportspot.com.
]]>Norman’s release was almost a given after another tumultuous season in Northern Virginia. After signing a big-money contract with the ‘Skins after seasons of dominant play with the Carolina Panthers, the South Carolina native never quite lived up to his billing at Fedex Field.
The five-year, $75 million deal given to Norman was widely considered yet another example of the franchise’s reckless, ill-advised spending.
After spending three seasons as an undisputed starter with the ‘Skins despite mediocre production, Norman was benched at the end of the 2019 season. He only appeared on special teams in the last games of the season despite the team being short at cornerback.
It was a long fall from grace for Norman, who was a first-team All-Pro squad member and a Pro Bowl participant in the 2015 season before joining the Redskins.
Washington will save $12.5 million in salary-cap space after releasing the 32-year-old veteran, space that they intend to use in the free-agent market to improve a team that limped to a 3-13 record in the 2019 season.
Norman is now a free agent and may sign with any team.

]]>Kaepernick, who believes that the NFL has systemically decided to keep him out of the league after his controversial statements on race and American society, tweeted a motivational video illustrating his desire to return to the league.
The quarterback claims to have been waking up at 5 o’clock in the morning to train five days a week for the past three years ever since being let go by the San Francisco 49ers. Despite leading the Niners to a Super Bowl appearance against the Baltimore Ravens back in 2013 and years of solid production, he has been unable to find another shot in the world’s best football league.
The 31-year-old quarterback has thrown 72 touchdowns and 30 interceptions in his NFL career with an impressive 60% completion percentage. He’s known for his strong arm and his mobility while running.
Only time will tell if Kaepernick will get another shot to play in the NFL, but he certainly appears to have been doing his part to find another chance to be under center in the pros again.

]]>The dominant linebacker’s new deal will keep him in Atlanta through the 2023 season, and includes $36 million in guaranteed salary.
It’s been quite a rise to the elite for Jones, who was a relatively unheralded second round draft pick out of Louisiana State University in the 2016 NFL Draft. He immediately made an impact with the Falcons, starting 13 games and recording 106 total tackles.
He got even better in 2017, when he was given his first career NFL Pro Bowl nod. He anchored Atlanta’s defense, recording 138 total tackles and 3 interceptions, which led to him establishing himself as one of the league’s best linebackers.
Jones picked up a foot injury in the first game of the 2018 season, which caused him to miss 10 of the Falcons’ 16 games. His absence was felt during the time he spent on the injured reserve list, as the Falcons’ defense struggled mightily without him.
The Falcons now hope that Jones will come back healthy and strong in 2019 so that he anchors their defense both this season and for the next four years to come.

]]>The post Arizona Cardinals Release CB David Amerson appeared first on yoursportspot.com.
]]>Not many people expected Arizona to make this move considering the team’s lack of depth in the secondary. Amerson was expected to be a starter in the Cardinals’ defense next season while Patrick Peterson serves a suspension for the first six games of the season.
Instead, the Cardinals decided that they preferred to release the veteran cornerback and clear way for younger players such as rookie Byron Williams to start during Peterson’s absence.
Robert Alford, who the Cardinals signed to a three-year deal in the offseason, is expected to start in the other cornerback slot next season.
Amerson will surely be a serviceable find for whichever team picks him up after his release. While he is not a superstar, the North Carolina State graduate had started 5 games for the Cardinals after they signed him in the middle of last season. He’s spent six seasons in the NFL, compiling a total of 234 tackles and 9 interceptions.
Now, Amerson will look to the free agent market for a new team and the Cardinals to look to their younger options at cornerback to take the veteran’s place.

]]>Jones, the 6th overall pick in the 2005 NFL Draft by the Tennessee Titans, spent the majority of his career with the Cincinnati Bengals. The cornerback made headlines both for his play on the field and for his behavior off of it.
He spent the 2018 season with the Denver Broncos, playing sparingly and only appearing in 7 games.
The Atlanta native spent the first two seasons of his career with the Tennessee Titans before being suspended by Roger Goodell for the 2007 season after a violent incident at a nightclub.
Jones then went to Cincinnati after a short stint with the Dallas Cowboys, where he began to get in trouble less and perform well on the field. Pacman was named a 2014 First Team All-Pro selection and was also selected to participate in the 2016 Pro Bowl.
The brash cornerback missed two entire seasons in his career due to legal troubles.
Jones finishes his NFL career with 411 total tackles and 17 interceptions. He is a character who will not easily be forgotten in the league’s history books.
