The post Calvin Ridley Joins Titans on a 4-Year, $92 Million Deal appeared first on yoursportspot.com.
]]>Ridley, who played the last season with Titans’ division rivals Jacksonville Jaguars, will get $50 million in guaranteed money as part of the deal, according to his agents David Mulugheta and Reza Hesam.
Ridley missed the entire 2022 due to a suspension before returning to the field in 2023. Despite the time off, he still managed to catch 76 passes for 1,016 yards and eight touchdowns in 17 games with the Jags.
The move to the Titans comes as a surprise, considering recent reports indicated that a return to Jacksonville is the likeliest outcome for Ridley. The player expressed interest in remaining with the franchise, while the Jags also seemed keen on a reunion. Additionally, the New England Patriots reportedly made a strong push to sign him.
By acquiring Ridley, the Titans add another weapon for their promising second-year quarterback, Will Levis. Ridley will join the Pro Bowler DeAndre Hopkins and former first-round wideout Treylon Burks as primary options for Levis.
Prior to joining the Jags, Ridley spent four years with the Atlanta Falcons. He has 516 career receptions for 4,358 yards and 36 touchdowns as a pro.

]]>Vrabel revealed after the game that Burks was alert and had full use of his extremities. The wide receiver was later seen walking out of the locker room on his own to the team bus, thereby corroborating Vrabel’s account.
Burks went down when attempting to make a deep catch with the ball slipping out of his grasp. He landed hard out of bounds and appeared as if he was unconscious. He was treated by members of both teams’ medical staff and by the time he was loaded onto the stretcher, it appeared as if Burks could wiggle his toes.

]]>The post Titans’ QB Ryan Tannehill is Dealing With a High Ankle Sprain appeared first on yoursportspot.com.
]]>The injury is reportedly similar to an ankle sprain that Tannehill had in 2022, which ended up causing him to miss five games and required surgery. However, the good news for the Titans is that the veteran won’t have to undergo a procedure this time around.
Speaking about Tannehill on Monday, Titans’ head coach Mike Vrabel said that Tannehill’s availability will depend on how he feels after this week. Tennessee will be on a bye in Week 7.
“Ryan will get treatment around the clock,” Vrabel said. “This will be a big week to see how he progresses, and then we’ll make a decision on his availability next week.”
Tannehill has struggled so far in the 2023 season, completing 62.0% of his passes while throwing for 1,128 yards and only two touchdowns. He also has six interceptions.
In case the 35-year-old player isn’t ready to go in Week 8, the Titans will have to turn to either second-year signal caller Malik Willis or rookie Will Levis to start under center. Willis is currently second on the depth chart.

]]>The post Titans Sign All-Pro DL Jeffery Simmons on 4-Year, $94 Million Extension appeared first on yoursportspot.com.
]]>Simmons will receive a $24 million signing bonus as part of the agreement as well as $66 million in guaranteed money. The Mississippi State product was set to play out the fifth and final year of his rookie contract in 2023.
With this new contract, Simmons is now the second-highest-paid defensive lineman in the NFL. The only player with a higher salary than him is LA Rams’ star Aaron Donald, who signed a three-year, $95 million deal last year.
The Titans selected Jeffery Simmons with the 19th pick in 2019 despite the fact that he would enter his rookie season with a torn ACL. The team’s faith in Simmons paid off, as he immediately made an impact upon returning to the field. He ended up making seven starts in his first year as a pro and only missed three games in his next three seasons.
Simmons was selected to Second-Team All-Pro for the past two years while also receiving consecutive Pro Bowl nods. He finished the 2022 campaign with 54 tackles, 7.5 sacks, 14 QB hits, and seven pass deflections.

]]>The post Titans Reportedly Shopping Star RB Derrick Henry appeared first on yoursportspot.com.
]]>While Henry has been a franchise cornerstone for the Titans, it isn’t such a surprise that he could be at the exit door. Tennessee’s recent moves, which included cutting ties with a number of veterans, signaled the franchise is at least considering some form of rebuilding. Trading Henry while he still holds value could get them back assets that could help the process.
It is unclear what kind of market Henry might have. There are rumors that the 29-year-old is looking for a new contract, with that being part of the Titans’ motivation to trade him. He is slated to earn $10.5 million in salary in 2023 but doesn’t have any guaranteed money left on his contract. The team that acquires him would likely have to give him an improved deal as part of the package.
Derrick Henry has arguably been the best running back in the league in recent years. He had his best season in 2020 when he rushed for 2,027 yards and 17 touchdowns en route to the AP NFL Offensive Player of the Year award.
Henry missed eight games in 2021 due to a Lisfranc injury but bounced back last season to rush for 1,538 yards and earn third career Pro Bowl nod.

]]>Carthon reportedly interviewed for the role with a panel of Titans executives on Friday, with controlling owner Amy Adams-Strunk in attendance.
Prior to becoming director of player personnel two seasons ago, Carthon served as the Titans’ director of pro personnel for five seasons.
During his 15 years of experience, Carthon also spent five seasons as the director of pro personnel with the St. Louis/Los Angeles Rams and four seasons as a pro scout with the Atlanta Falcons.
The search for a new general manager comes after the Titans decided to dismiss Jon Robinson from the role in November. This comes after the team reached the decision that Robinson had not been leading the Titans in the desired general direction.
In addition to the change in general manager, the Titans are also dealing with the aftermath of Monti Ossenfort’s decision to step down as director of player personnel in order to take a job as the Arizona Cardinals’ new general manager.

]]>Tannehill was injured during the Titans’ 14-17 loss to the Los Angeles Chargers on Sunday when Chargers outside linebacker Khalil Mack landed on Tannehill’s right foot.
Directly after the incident, the Titans’ trainers escorted the quarterback off the field and to the locker room for evaluation. After taping his foot, the trainers decided to allow Tannehill to return to the game. He missed only one offensive series as a result.
“We are never going to question his toughness or his willingness to get back and help us win,” coach Mike Vrabel said of Tannehill following the close loss to the Chargers.
This is the same ankle that Tannehill injured in Week 6 against the Indianapolis Colts. On that occasion, Tannehill was sidelined for two weeks, with backup quarterback Malik Willis starting in his place.
Willis took part in all of the Titans’ first-team snaps on Tuesday and Wednesday and is largely expected to replace Tannehill for the rest of the season. Prior to his injury, Tannehill threw for 2,536 yards and 13 touchdowns with six interceptions.

]]>Walker spent the last seven years of his pro career with the Titans and still holds several franchise records for the tight end position, including the most receiving touchdowns (28), most receptions in a single season (94), and most receiving yards in a season (1,088).
“When I came into this league, I wasn’t a big name, and I left this league with a big name, and that just shows I worked hard for this,” Walker said. “I worked hard to put myself on the map, and to prove to myself I was an elite player in this league.”
Delanie Walker entered the league as a sixth-round pick by the San Francisco 49ers in 2006. He spent seven years with the franchise but never put up eye-catching numbers in San Francisco.
Walker left the 49ers to join the Titans in 2013 and went on to enjoy a late career renaissance. This included three straight Pro Bowl appearances between 2015 and 2017.
“To be able to retire with the Titans means a lot because I feel like those were my best years,” Walker added. “I am honored to go out as a Titan.”

As one of the Titans’ most durable picks, Landry was on the field for 89.5% of the team’s defensive snaps last season. He has also been praised by Titans general manager Jon Robinson as a hard-working player who “is chomping at the bit to get back out there” and perform for his team.
With Landry most likely unavailable for the Titans’ opening fixtures in the new NFL season, the team will potentially need to consider selecting outside linebacker Rashad Weaver as a replacement. Alternatively, veteran edge defender Ola Adeniyi could prove a viable replacement.

Vaccaro added that he had offers from multiple NFL franchises who offered him a chance to return to football, but he wasn’t interested in getting back on the field.
