Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag stated that the club will not “burn money” in pursuit of a new striker during the January transfer window. While the club is in need of reinforcements up front following Cristiano Ronaldo’s departure, ten Hag is unwilling to waste money by signing the wrong replacement.

“I think we have a good team when all the players are available, but with many games coming up, I think there is a need [for a new striker],” ten Hag stated. “But you need one who can have an impact, otherwise you are just burning money and you don’t strengthen the squad. It doesn’t help you.”

The Red Devils are due to face Bournemouth in their next Premier League match on Tuesday night, during which they will hope to expand on their three-game winning streak. Currently, Man Utd sits fourth in the Premier League standings, where they trail third-placed Newcastle United by two points with a game in hand.

In an effort to avoid depleting his attacking options, ten Hag will not allow any of his forwards to leave on loan in January. This includes youngster Anthony Elanga, who is currently being targeted by Everton.
