The Houston Texans made an addition to help their shaky secondary depth on Monday, acquiring former first-round pick Gareon Conley from the Oakland Raiders in exchange for a future third-round pick in the draft.

The Texans, who have been thin at the position throughout the season due to injuries to regular starters Johnathan Johnson and Bradley Roby, needed to add another player to the mix, and they were able to do so before the trade deadline later this week.

The team’s situation was further worsened by an ankle injury suffered by Phillip Gaines, a backup who had started in place of the injured corners, in Houston’s Sunday loss to the Indianapolis Colts.

The acquisition of Conley, who was never able to establish himself in Oakland’s defense despite his high draft number, gives the AFC South team another body as they look to patch and play.

Conley, an Ohio State alum, has played sparingly for the Raiders throughout the year, totaling 23 combined tackles and one interception. He is expected to immediately be in the mix for extensive playing time for the 4-3 Texans.

He is expected to make his debut with the Texans against his former team, the Raiders, on Sunday.
