The Houston Texans don’t seem interested in winning in 2022 and seem to be using the current NFL season to assess the younger players on their roster. This is why it doesn’t come as a surprise that the team recently decided to release veteran linebacker Kamu Grugier-Hill.

Grugier-Hill entered the campaign as a starter in the LB position but saw his playing time diminished recently. The Texans opted to give a prominent role to rookie Christian Harris, who played more than two-thirds of the snaps last week against the Las Vegas Raiders.

According to NFL Network’s Top Pelissero, seeing that he will probably not see the field much for the rest of 2022, Grugier-Hill asked the Texans to release him. The team obliged, and the 28-year-old player will now be free to sign with another team.

Kamu Grugier-Hill joined the Texans in 2021 as a low-cost veteran but ended up having a career- year in Houston. He finished the campaign with 108 tackles, 3.0 sacks, and one interception. The Eastern Illinois product agreed to return to the franchise in 2022 on a one-year, $3.25 million deal.

It is unlikely that Grugier-Hill will spend much time on the free agent market. Despite not being as productive as last year, he could still emerge as a notable addition to a team that struggles with LB depth.
