Sacramento Kings center Willie Cauley-Stein will become a restricted free agent in July, but his agent Roger Montgomery is doing his best to change his status. Montgomery recently issued a plea to the Kings to allow Cauley-Stein to freely explore the market.

“I’m hopeful they will not even give Willie his qualifying offer,” – said Montgomery while talking with Sacramento Be.

According to Montgomery, it’s time for his client to “move on” from Sacramento.

“I really think Willie needs a fresh start,” – he added. “Based on how things have gone for him there in Sacramento, I just think it’s time for Willie to move on and we’d really like him to move on.”

Kings took Willie Cauley-Stein sixth overall in 2015, and have the ability to offer him a $6.2 million qualifying offer for the next season. If they do that, they will also have the ability to match any offer Cauley-Stein receives from other teams and keep him on a long-term deal that way.

Reportedly, Sacramento is still unsure about their move regarding Cauley-Stein, and according to Yahoo Sports, they are “mulling their options.”

During his four years in the league, Cauley-Stein has shown amazing potential at moments but struggled with consistency. His NBA career averages include 10.1 points and 6.4 rebounds per game.
