The Tennessee Titans defeated the Houston Texans in overtime on Sunday to extend their perfect start to the season to 5-0, but their win wasn’t without bad news as they learned that key offensive tackle Taylor Lewan suffered a torn ACL in their victory.

Lewan exited the game after taking an awkward step during the third quarter of the Titans’ win. He immediately left, and was replaced by backup Ty Sambralio.

After tests were done on the star offensive tackle following the game, the worst possible news was confirmed. Lewan’s injury will keep him out for the rest of the season, and he will face a gruelling rehabilitation process before he is able to return to the field.

Lewan’s absence is a big blow for the Titans, who have depended on him for the last several seasons to protect their quarterback’s blindside. The 2014 first-round draft pick was named an AFC Pro Bowler three times from 2016 to 2018, cementing his status as one of the game’s top offensive linemen.

Despite missing four games after a suspension last season due to taking a banned substance, he was crucial in blocking for Derrick Henry as he led the league in rushing yards.

The Titans will hope that Sambralio will step in and perform admirably for Lewan as they look to head to the playoffs for the second straight season.
