Quarterback Tom Brady filed paperwork with the NFL and the NFL Players Association on Friday to formalize his retirement from football, sources confirmed to ESPN on Sunday. His date of retirement is February 1.

Last offseason, Brady announced his retirement, however after 40 days, he decided to return to football to see out his last season with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He stated, however, that his subsequent retirement would be a permanent one, citing his desire to move on to new endeavors following his illustrious career.

During his 23-season NFL career, Brady won seven Super Bowl Championship rings. Upon retiring from the NFL, he is set to become a Fox Sports analyst in 2024.

Now that Brady is set to retire, the Buccanneers will free up $35 million in their salary cap, thereby being able to put it to use in 2023. According to Roster Management System, Tampa Bay is expected to be $60 million over its salary cap.
