Tottenham Hotspur are setting the stage for a reunion with Welsh star forward Gareth Bale. According to Spanish media outlet Deportes Cuatro, Tottenham’s manager Jose Mourinho gave his blessing for the transfer, and the Premier League side already opened exploratory talks for the 31-year-old player with Real Madrid.

Bale has been deemed surplus by Real’s manager Zinedine Zidane for some time now, having only played 16 games in La Liga in 2019/20.  It became clear that the player has no future at Santiago Bernabeu, but the Spanish powerhouse had a hard time moving him due to his massive salary of around $460k per week. He was close to a move to China last summer, but the transfer was stopped at the last moment by club’s president Florentino Perez.

Tottenham is looking to use this situation and lure Bale back to England, while the player is also believed to have an interest in a reunion. However, since the Spurs are cash-strapped, any move would probably depend on Real’s willingness to keep paying a portion of Welshman’s salary.

Gareth Bale spent six years with Tottenham between 2007 and 2013, establishing himself as one of the best forwards in the world. He played 205 games and scored 55 goals during his time in London before Real acquired him in a record-breaking transfer ahead of the 2013/2014 season.
