Tottenham Hotspur’s striker Harry Kane is widely recognized as one of the best soccer players in the world on his position. But it seems like conquering one sport won’t be enough for Kane as the 25-year-old Englishman wants to try his luck in the NFL as well.
In a recent ESPN feature, Kane talked about his passion for American football and said that he would like to play in NFL as a kicker after he finishes his soccer career.
“That’s real,” – Kane told ESPN‘s Bruce Schoenfeld. “Something that in 10 or 12 years I definitely want to try.”
Kane went on to explain that he became the fan of the sport thanks to watching Tom Brady’s highlights and learning about his rise from sixth-round pick to becoming the most accomplished quarterback in the history of the game.
“It goes back to that drive to be the best,” – he added. “Even if I download a game on my phone, can I be the best in the world? … If you play in the Premier League and the World Cup and you then play in the NFL, would you then be considered one of the greatest sportsmen ever?”
While it isn’t unusual for NFL kickers to have a soccer background, it is still rare to see players making a successful transition from one sport to another.
As NFL Network points out, Austrian forward Toni Fritsch is one notable positive example as he was accomplished soccer player in his native country for eight years before turning to American football. Fritsch also found success in NFL, as he won the Super Bowl ring alongside one Pro Bowl appearance and All-Pro honors.
We will have to wait and see whether Harry Kane remains devoted to making his NFL wish come true, but if you ask us, that is something we would definitely would like to see.
