Canadian billionaire Steve Apostolopoulos and the Josh Harris/Mitchell Rales group have both submitted bids for the Washington Commanders worth $6 billion, thereby meeting current owner Dan Snyder’s asking price.

Should either party’s offer be accepted, it would break the current record sale for an NFL franchise. A group led by Walmart heir Rob Walton purchased the Denver Broncos for $4.65 million in August last year.

Aside from Apostolopoulos and the Josh Harris/Mitchell Rales group wich includes former NBA player Magic Johnson, Tilman Fertitta has expressed an interest in acquiring the Commanders. In addition to the Houston Rockets owner, another anonymous group has explored the sale, taking a tour of the Commanders’ facilities as well.

Once the Snyders accept a winning bid, the name of the new prospective owner must be submitted to the NFL for approval. The approval of three-quarters of the owners would be required to advance the sale.
