Former Cleveland Cavaliers head coach Tyronn Lue has reportedly been identified as the Houston Rockets’ top candidate for their head coaching vacancy, according to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski.

Lue traveled to Houston over the weekend to interview for the team’s job and expressed optimism about the possibility of coaching the team.

Lue reportedly impressed in his interview with Rockets brass, which is looking for a candidate who will replace the newly-departed Mike D’Antoni. The Rockets and D’Antoni mutually agreed to part ways following their Conference Semifinals exit, another in a long stream of disappointing performances in the playoffs.

The former NBA point guard’s only previous head coaching job was with the Cleveland Cavaliers from 2016 to 2018. In parts of four seasons with the team, Lue accumulated a 128-83 record with three NBA Finals appearances, including the Cavs’ miracle run to the 2016 title.

Lue served as an assistant under Doc Rivers for the Clippers during the 2019-20 season, and is reportedly being courted by the LA team for their head coaching vacancy as well after Rivers’ dismissal.

Keep an eye out to see if Lue makes his decision this week, as it certainly appears that he will land in a head coaching job somewhere in the immediate future.
