Heavyweight champions Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury may finally be facing in the ring. English promoter Eddie Hearn, who promotes Joshua, reported that in 2021 the champions have an “agreement” to fight.

On Wednesday Hearn told ESPN that the boxers have worked on the in and outs of the deal should it happen in 2021. “We have agreed to the basics of the deal, a two-fight deal,” said Hearn. “The hardest part is to agree to the financial element of the deal. We have agreed with Tyson Fury and the team, and we can now move forward with finalizing the smaller parts of the deal. The good news for fight fans is that we have agreed to do the two fights, and we can now go and dot the I’s and cross the T’s.”

Hearn added that details like the venue and date have yet to be decided and that Joshua and Fury will have to win their next fights in order to face off. Fury has a defense against Deontay Wilder and Joshua has a fight against Kubrat Pulev. “They also have fights in between to make and get through, and that’s another issue,” said Hearn.

Fury later posted on social media confirming the deal.

Anthony Joshua managed to get back the WBO, WBA, and IBF heavyweight champion belts in a rematch six months later after losing them to Andy Ruiz in June 2019. Tyson Fury defeated Deontay Wilder in early 2020 and currently holds the WBC heavyweight champion belt.
