U.S. international left-back Antonee Robinson is heading to Premier League. According to multiple reports from English media, Robinson is close to joining Sheffield United.
Robinson has been stellar for Championship’s Wigan Athletic in recent season and was linked with an exit from DW Stadium for some time now. At one point, the 23-year-old player even had a move arranged to Seria A side AC Milan, but the transfer fell through due to heart issues that were discovered during a medical.
Robinson became a highly sought-after player this summer as well, with his exit being put on the fast track by Wigan’s relegation to the third tier of England’s domestic competition. Several Premier League clubs, including West Ham and Newcastle United, emerged as contenders for his services, but Sheffield United were first to have their bid accepted.
According to Sky Sports, Sheffield will pay around $2.7 million for Robinson, which is significantly less than $10 million Milan was ready to part ways back in January.
Antonee Robinson started his career with Everton, but failed to play a single game for the club. He initially joined Wigan Athletic on loan in 2018/19, before sealing a permanent move ahead of 2019/20. Robinson played a total of 65 games with Wigan, scoring one goal and providing two assists.
Robinson has also been a member of the United States men’s national team since 2018 and he has made seven appearances for the senior squad since then.
