United States’ international attacking midfielder Brenden Aaronson will not be part of Leeds United’s bid to return to the Premier League next season. According to multiple reports, Aaronson has a deal in place that will see him join Bundesliga side Union Berlin on loan.

Shortly after Leeds was relegated to the English Championship at the end of the 2022-23 campaign, it became clear that Aaronson was interested in leaving in order to continue playing at the top level. Several clubs were interested in his services, but it was Union Berlin that made the most compelling offer.

Aaronson is expected to join the German club on a season-long loan. It is unclear whether the agreement comes with an option to make the move permanent.

Brenden Aaronson joined Leeds last summer in a £23.6 million transfer from FC Salzburg. Reuniting with his former Salzburg manager and fellow American Jesse Marsch, Aaronson emerged as one of the key players for Leeds.

Aaronson played a total of 36 games in the Premier League last season, scoring one goal and dishing three assists.

With Union Berlin, Aaronson will have a chance to play in UEFA Champions League. Union finished fourth in the Bundesliga, which got them an automatic UCL spot.
