The upcoming UEFA Super Cup final between Champions League winners Bayern Munich and Europa League winners Sevilla will be held in front of a reduced number of fans, marking the first time that there will be people in the stands for a UEFA competition match since March.

UEFA confirmed to media members on Tuesday that the match, set to be held on Thursday, September 24th in Budapest, Hungary, will be played in front of a limited number of fans not exceeding 30% capacity of the stadium.

The ground which is set to host the game is the Puskas Arena, which has a capacity of 67,000 fans. This means that around 20,000 fans will be allowed to tend with social distancing protocols in place in order to avoid the spread of COVID-19.

The Super Cup is planning to use the experience in this match as a sort of trial run for a possible blueprint that would allow some fans to watch matches this season in European competitions. Depending on how this experience goes, this could open the door to fans in the stands during Champions League and Europa League fixtures.

This is certainly a welcome bit of news for Bayern Munich and Sevilla fans, some of whom might have the chance to see their favorite team win one of the most prestigious trophies in the entire sport in person.
