United States Opens Gold Cup with 4-0 Win Over Guyana

The United States men’s national team got off to a solid start in the Gold Cup with a 4-0 win over Guyana on Tuesday night.

The USMNT, which hosted Guayana at Allianz Field in Minneapolis, Minnesota, outclassed their South American opponents and took an important first three points in the group stage of the 2019 edition of the competition.

The star of the game for the Stars and Stripes last night was undoubtedly Tyler Boyd, the American winger who plays for Vitória de Guimarães in the Portuguese top flight. Boyd, in fact, scored the thousandth goal in the history of the men’s national team with his second strike of the night.

The opener for the team was scored by Paul Arriola in the 21st minute, and striker Gyasi Zardes also got in on the goal-scoring action with a shot to make the score 3-0 in the 55th minute of the game.

The USMNT is now in a favorable position in Group D of the competition. They are tied with 3 points at the top with Panama, who they’ll face in the final game of group play.

Their attention now turns to Trinidad & Tobago, a squad that they will want to get revenge against after their 2018 World Cup dreams went up in smoke with a defeat to the island nation.

They’ll look to seal their spot in the knockout stage with a win on Saturday night.
