United States men’s national team defender Tim Ream is returning home. Ream joined Charlotte FC in a transfer from Fulham, with the MLS side confirming the move on Wednesday.

Ream spent nine seasons with Fulham and had one more year left on his deal with the Premier League side. However, the English club decided to release him from his contract and allow him to sign with Charlotte on a free transfer as a sign of gratitude for everything he has done for them.

In a statement shared by the club, Ream said he is excited to start a new chapter in his career.

“In all my conversations with the people around the club, it was clear this organization and city were the right places for my family and me to continue our journey, “said Ream. “I’m here to win, and I’m looking forward to getting to know the team as we prepare for a key stretch of matches that will propel us toward the playoffs as we fight for our first trophy.”

Ream is expected to strengthen Charlotte FC’s already formidable defense that allowed second-fewest goals so far in 2024. Dean Smith’s side is currently sitting sixth in the Eastern Conference with 37 points after 25 games.

Tim Ream made his professional debut with the New York Red Bulls in 2010 and spent two seasons with the club before securing a move to Bolton Wanderers in 2012. He joined Fulham in 2015 and made 312 appearances for the club across all competitions.

Ream has also been a regular fixture for USMNT since making his senior team debut in 2010. He has 61 international games on his resume.
