United States men’s national team midfielder Gio Reyna is set to join Nottingham Forest on loan until the end of the 2023-24 season. The Premier League side will reportedly have an option to make the move permanent in the summer.

Reyna previously expressed the intention to leave Borussia Dortmund due to a lack of minutes. Several clubs from Europe had loan offers accepted by Borussia in recent weeks, including Ligue 1 side Marseille and La Liga’s Sevilla. However, Reyna ended up picking Forest as he believes the move gives him the best chance to resurrect his career.

Reyna’s move to Forest is expected to be confirmed later this week after the 21-year-old player undergoes his medical with the English club.

Reyna has had a challenging 2023-24 campaign with Borussia, failing to crack the starting 11 while his opportunities from the bench were also scarce. He played only 11 games in the Bundesliga, receiving just one start and playing a total of 270 minutes. Reyna has yet to register a single club goal this season.

Nottingham Forest is currently sitting at No. 16 in the Premier League standings, and adding a player like Reyna could help them a lot in their attempts to avoid relegation. Forest has 20 points, just two more than Everton, which finds itself in the relegation zone.
