U.S. international forward Ulysses Llanez recently signed a new contract with VfL Wolfsburg, but he won’t make his debut with the Bundesliga side just yet. Instead, Llanez will spend the 2020/21 season on loan with Eredivisie side Heerenveen.

Heerenveen confirmed on Wednesday that Llanez will join the club on a season-long loan spell and will take the No. 7 jersey.

Facing a tough competition upfront in Wolfsburg, the move might prove good for Llanez’s development. The 19-year-old player will be part of a young squad in Heerenveen and should receive a lot of playing time.

Speaking about the move, Heerenveen’s technical director Gerry Hamstra expressed his excitement about bringing in Llanez.

“Ulysses is an agile, fast winger who is strong in one-on-one duels,” said Hamstra. “He has good skill and can score. He gives us more options on the flanks. We are happy to have great talent as a player as well as add Ulysses to our team.”

Ulysses Llanez spent the most of his youth career with LA Galaxy before making a move to Wolfsburg in 2019. He hasn’t made his professional debut for the club so far but managed to score 11 goals in 16 matches for the U-19 side.

Llanez made his USMNT debut in February’s 1-0 win against Costa Rica, scoring the only goal of the match.
