WBO, WBA, and WBC lightweight champion Vasiliy Lomachenko and IBF belt-holder Teofimo Lopez are set to meet in the ring for a unification fight this year.

According to promotor Top Rank, which represents both fighters, Lomachenko and Lopez fight will take place on September 19th. The venue is still to be determined, but the most likely choice is reportedly Las Vegas.

“In talking with Lomachenko and Lopez, neither of them want an interim fight,” Top Rank CEO Bob Arum told ESPN. “So we would plan to do that in September, with or without an audience.”

Lomachenko and Lopez were previously scheduled to square off at New York’s Madison Square Garden in May. However, the fight was postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Vasiliy Lomachenko has a featherweight Olympic gold medal from Beijing and a lightweight Olympic gold medal from London. Since turning pro in 2013, he has 14-1 record and 10 knockout wins. Lomachenko is currently undefeated in his last 13 fights.

Teofimo Lopez, on the other hand, is considered to be one of the most talented fighters in his generation. He is undefeated since turning pro in 2016. Lopez has a 15-0 record, with 12 of those wins coming via knockout.
