WBA lightweight Champion Vasyl Lomachenko is set to undergo surgery in order to repair damage to his right shoulder which he sustained during his win against Jorge Linares in May.

As a result of the surgery, the 30-year-old Lomachenko is expected to be out of action for the rest of this year. The Ukrainian boxer had been hoping to return by this August but he will now be out of action for longer than that. If things go well, he could return to training again in October and be fit to compete again by the end of the year.

Lomachenko (11-1-9) managed to defeat Linares during the 10th round of their bout which took place on May 12th and this meant that he has now won titles in three divisions after he also won in 126 and 130.

After vacating his 130-pound WBO belt, he indicated that he wishes to stay within the lightweight division for the time being.
