Team Mercedes managed to score 8 consecutive victories in 8 Grand Prix races so far this season making this their year. But their winning streak was stopped this weekend at the Austrian GP by the young Dutch driver Max Verstappen who drives for Red Bull.

This fresh breeze in Formula 1 racing comes at the right time since last week’s 8th Mercedes victory caused negative reactions in the F1 fan base who were accusing F1 of monotony and predictability.

The 21-year-old Verstappen once again showed his great skills and perfect handling, winning the Austrian GP and finishing the race with a time of 1:22:01,822 and 26 points. Just after him, in second place was the Ferrari driver Charles Leclerc with +2.724 seconds and Valterri Bottas finished third with +18.960 seconds which was the highest place for Mercedes this race. Ferrari’s Sebastian Vettel and the star from Mercedes, Lewis Hamilton, got fourth and fifth place respectively.

Verstappen’s victory was controversial because of the move with which he gained the lead from Leclerc. It was later confirmed by the stewards.

The victory was also important for Honda as this is their first grand prix win since Jenson Button won the Hungarian GP in 2006.
