It appears that veteran cornerback William Jackson III played his last game for the Washington Commanders. According to multiple reports, Jackson is unhappy with his role in the team’s defense and wants to be traded.

The Commanders don’t seem to have an issue with Jackson’s departure and will work with the player’s agent to find him a new home. Several teams emerged as potential suitors for the 29-year-old, including the Miami Dolphins and the Arizona Cardinals.

Reportedly, Jackson isn’t unhappy with the Commanders as an organization but more with his role in the defense. He considers himself to be a lockdown corner who should be on the opposing team’s top wideout and was expected to play that role when he signed a three-year, $40.5 million contract with Washington in 2021. On the other hand, the Commanders have preferred to use him in zonal coverage up till now.

Jackson last played for Commanders in Week 5 when he was benched in the first quarter of the Tennessee Titans game. Although the player claimed he had issues with his back, the head coach Ron Rivera explained the decision by saying the team wanted to change things up.

A first-round pick in 2016, Jackson spent the first five years of his NFL career with the Cincinnati Bengals. Since his debut in the league, he totaled 189 tackles, 49 passes defended, five interceptions, and one defensive touchdown.
