Ottawa Senators will have a new face at goal once the 2020/21 NHL season kicks off. The team decided not to resign their long-time goalkeeper Craig Anderson, with the news being confirmed on Wednesday by Senators’ general manager Pierre Dorion.

Anderson will leave Ottawa after 10 seasons in which he became the franchise leader in several categories including games played (435), wins (202), and saves (12,447).

“He’s the best goalie we’ve ever had,” said Dorion via TSN. “It’s time for us to take another direction, and we thank him for everything he did.”

Craig Anderson spent his early career with Chicago Blackhawks, Florida Panthers, and Colorado Avalanche before landing in Ottawa midway through the 2010/11 season. After some growing pains, Anderson took command as Senators’ starting goalie and quickly became a fan favorite.

During his time with the Senators, Anderson earned two All-Star nods while helping the team to four postseason trips. His best result in playoffs was the Conference Finals in 2016/17 when Ottawa was just one game shy of Stanley Cup Finals appearance.
