Highly touted French basketball prospect Victor Wembanyama has officially declared for the 2023 NBA Draft. Wembanyama, who plays in native France with Metropolitans 92, is considered the overwhelming favorite to be selected first overall.

Although considered a formality, Wembanyama decided to make the announcement earlier than later and make it clear that his next step would be the NBA. The 19-year-old shared the news during a recent appearance on ESPN’s NBA Today show.

“I realized pretty young I wanted to play in the NBA, but it becomes a reality more every day,” Wembanyama told host Malika Andrews. “I’m so lucky to have this dream within reach of my hand.”

Victor Wembanyama is considered a generational talent who could change the fortunes of a franchise for years to come. Standing at 7-foot-5 and with an 8-foot wingspan, Wembanyama will be the highest and longest player when he comes to NBA. Despite his size, he has crafty footwork and can handle the ball like a point guard with a sweet stroke and a lethal 3-point shot.

Wembanyama is currently averaging 21.4 points, 9.9 rebounds, 2.3 assists, and 3.1 blocks per game in LNB Pro A. Thanks to his great play, the Metropolitans 92 are surprisingly sitting at No. 2 on the standings and are positioned for a deep playoff run.
