Minnesota Vikings announced on Thursday that they have signed veteran linebacker Todd Davis on a one-year deal. The signing of Davis comes after the Vikings’ LB core was hit with multiple injuries in Week 2 loss to Indianapolis Colts.

In a corresponding move, Vikings placed rookie LB Troy Dye on Injured Reserve, sidelining him for at least three weeks. Dye hurt his foot in the second quarter of the game against the Colts.

Vikings previously also lost Pro Bowler Anthony Barr, 2017’s fourth-round pick Ben Gedeon, and veteran Cameron Smith. Barr went down with a pec muscle injury in Week 2 as is most likely out for the season, while Gedeon is currently on the physically unable to perform list after suffering two concussions in 2019. Smith, on the other hand, had to undergo a heart surgery during the offseason and was waived with injury designation before the start of the season.

Aside from Davis, who is expected to play significant snaps right away, Minnesota also has All-Pro Eric Kendricks, fourth-year player Eric Wilson, and 2019’s fifth-rounder Ryan Connelly. The organization also promoted Hardy Nickerson Jr. to the active roster from the practice squad.

Todd Davis entered the league as an undrafted free agent in 2014, splitting his rookie season with New Orleans Saints and Denver Broncos. He spent the past five years with Broncos before the organization decided to release him earlier this month.

Davis’ career stats include 472 tackles, 2.0 sacks, one interception, 13 pass deflections, and one forced fumble.
