Minnesota Vikings are facing a tough blow in attempts to turn around their so-far disappointing season. According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Vikings’ lead running back Dalvin Cook is dealing with a groin injury and could be out of action for a couple of weeks.

Cook got hurt in the third quarter of the 26-27 loss to Seattle Seahawks on Sunday night and didn’t return to the game. Until that point, he had 65 rushing yards and one touchdown.

Luckily for Vikings, Cook’s injury doesn’t seem too serious. The 25-year-old running back underwent an MRI on Monday, and the test “went pretty well” according to the team’s head coach Mike Zimmer.

However, as Schefter points out, Minnesota might decide to take a cautious approach and sit out Cook in Week 6, considering that they have Week 7 bye. This way, the Pro Bowler would have two weeks to recover.

After a breakthrough season in 2019, Dalvin Cook got a five-year, $63 million extension from Vikings in the offseason. So far, the deal paid off for Vikings, as Cook currently leads the NFL in rushing with 489 rushing yards and seven rushing TDs. He also added 12 receptions for 64 yards.

Vikings, who are currently 1-4, welcome winless Atlanta Falcons in Week 6.
