Minnesota Vikings are hoping to add some depth to their secondary before the 2019 NFL season kicks off. NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero reported on Friday that the Vikings brought in veteran cornerback Morris Claiborne for a workout session hoping he could emerge as a solution for their troubled CB crop.

Vikings are thin on cornerback position mostly due to Mike Hughes and Holton Hill’s absence for the first part of the season. Hughes tore his ACL last season and won’t be ready for quite some time, while sophomore CB Hill received an eight-game suspension by NFL.

If Claiborne joins Minnesota, he would probably start the season behind Xavier Rhodes, Trae Waynes, and Mackensie Alexander on the depth chart, but would also have a chance to get a significant number of snaps if he excels in training camp.

Morris Claiborne was drafted sixth overall in 2012 NFL Draft after Dallas Cowboys traded up from 14th spot in order to get him. While Claiborne has a successful rookie season, the rest of his time in Dallas was marked by injuries and inconsistencies.

After Cowboys declined to extend his rookie contract, Claiborne signed with New York Jets in 2017. During his time in New York, he put up career numbers including having 57 tackles, 14 passes defended, and two interceptions in 2018.
