The Virginia Cavaliers and the Texas Tech Red Raiders booked their tickets to the NCAA men’s basketball tournament final by winning on Saturday night.

The first game of the night pitted #1 seed Virginia against the underdog Auburn Tigers. Despite being the fifth seed in their region, Auburn had been on a spectacular run to the Final Four after beating North Carolina and Kentucky.

Virginia cut Auburn’s dream short in a 63-62 thriller that didn’t finish without controversy. After Auburn had a 62-60 lead in the closing seconds, a controversial foul was called on a Kyle Guy three-point attempt.

The UVA guard hit the three free throws which gave his team the victory and led them to the National Championship Game.

In the other game, Texas Tech put together another dominating performance to oust Michigan State from the tournament in a 61-51 win.

The Red Raiders’ defense was suffocating once again, and guard Matt Mooney scored 22 points to lead Texas Tech to its first ever National Championship Game.

Virginia and Texas Tech will meet on Monday night at 9:20 pm Eastern Time to decide the tournament’s champion.
