The Golden State Warriors have acquired veteran point guard Dennis Schroder in a trade with the Brooklyn Nets, according to a report by ESPN’s NBA insider Shams Charania.

Charania reports that the Nets are sending Schroder and a second-round pick to Golden State while receiving guard De’Anthony Melton and three second-rounders in exchange. Melton is currently dealing with a torn ACL and is out for the remainder of the season.

The Warriors have been scouring the market in order to reinforce their roster after a rough stretch that saw them lose seven of their last 10 games. They were linked with several high-profile names, including Miami Heat’s superstar Jimmy Butler, but apparently decided to go with a cheaper option, at least for now.

The Nets, on the other hand, used the opportunity to gain some assets while parting ways with an expiring contract. Schroder is making $13 million in 2024-25 and will become a free agent in the summer. Additionally, his good performances have kept the Nets in playoff reach, while the franchise would likely prefer to have a high draft pick next year.

Schroder, who was the MVP of the 2023 FIBA World Cup, is averaging 18.4 points, 3.0 rebounds, and a career-high 6.6 assists this season.
