Warriors Consider Drafting Georgia’s Anthony Edwards if they land No.1 Pick

Golden State Warriors will end the regular 2019/20 NBA season with the worst record in the league, which gives them great chances of landing the No.1 overall pick in this year’s draft. And if that happens to be the case, they reportedly already known what to do with it.

Previous reports suggested that the Warriors would be open to trading the potential No.1 pick if that would land them a quality veteran player that can help them right away. But, Connor Letourneau from the San Francisco Chronicle suggests that Golden State is also interested in Georgia’s guard Anthony Edwards.

According to Letourneau’s sources within the organization, Warriors might decide to keep the No.1 pick if they get one, and select Edwards to be the future leader of the franchise. The 18-year-old will enter the draft as one of the top prospects in his class after averaging 19.1 points, 5.2 rebounds and 2.8 assists in his freshman rookie with the Bulldogs.

Letourneau adds that if Warriors land elsewhere in the draft lottery and Edwards is off the board, the team would then consider Auburn’s Isaac Okoro, Iowa State’s Tyrese Haliburton, and international prospect Deni Avdija.

Unlike some previous years, the class of 2020 doesn’t have a consensus No.1 prospect. There are several players in the mix for the first overall pick besides Anthony Edwards including Illawarra Hawks’ LaMelo Ball, Memphis’ James Wiseman, and ratiopharm Ulm’s Killian Hayes.
