Warriors’ DeMarcus Cousins Could Remain Sidelined for Months

Despite practicing with the Golden State Warriors’ G League twice this week, DeMarcus Cousins isn’t expected to return to the Oracle Arena for months, manager Steve Kerr said on Thursday.

“That’s why we still don’t have a timetable,” Kerr said about not knowing when Cousins will be back. “He needs to feel confident with the Achilles, his conditioning, his rhythm, his timing and everything else. We’re not going to rush him back. We’re going to help him through that process. When it happens, it happens.”

Cousins has been out injured for the better this year but his rehab progress has been going on well. This week, the 28-year-old appeared in Santa Cruz for the Warriors’ G League team for practice. To the disappointment of his fans, G League manager Aaron Miles confirmed Cousins was recovering at a slower speed than the team wished for.

Considering the average recovery time for an Achilles injury is eight to 12 months, Cousins’ injury problem has persisted. The Warriors don’t have any reason to hurry his return though. As manager Kerr said, the team is monitoring the player and will only have him back when he is ready.

Without “boogie man” as he is nicknamed, the Warriors rely on Kevin Durant, Steph Curry, and Draymond Green. Curry has had his share of injury while Durant and Green’s recent feud have threatened the team’s success. However, the Warriors aren’t badly off as they rank second in the western conference.
