Golden State Warriors shooting guard Klay Thompson, who missed the entire 2020 rehabbing from an ACL tear in his left knee, will now miss the entire 2021 season as well.
According to the team, Thompson suffered an Achilles injury in his right knee while working out in Southern California and getting ready for the season.
The injury occurred on the same day that the Warriors drafted promising center James Wiseman with the No. 2 pick in the NBA draft. The team was optimistic that they would be able to be competitive again in 2021, with their superstar shooter Stephen Curry finally healed up from a broken hand that kept him out for a good part of the 2020 season, Thompson coming back, and a promising big man in place.
With Thompson no longer available, the team is going to have to figure out a way to replace him and might have to pick up several free agents to try and fill the hole that Thompson’s season-ending injury has created.
Thompson injured his left leg in the final game of the 2019 season, Game 6 of the NBA Finals in which the Warriors lost to the Toronto Raptors. With a healthy Thompson and Curry leading the offense, Golden State won back-to-back NBA titles in 2017-2018.
