Washington Football Team outside linebacker Thomas Davis Sr. announced that he will be retiring from the NFL after the 2020 season.

In his long and productive career, Davis suited up for 16 seasons, despite having to battle back from three ACL tears over the course of his playing career. He also famously played in Super Bowl 50 as a member of the Carolina Panthers with a broken arm.

Davis’ career could end on Sunday if the Washington Football Team loses to the Philadelphia Eagles. However, if Washington wins on Sunday, they will be crowned NFC East Champions and will be going to the playoffs.

Davis was a safety coming out of college and had to completely reshape his body in order to become an NFL linebacker. Over the last 16 years, Davis was incredibly consistent despite battling serious injuries and was regarded by teammates as a true leader both on and off the field.

During his career, Davis posted six seasons in which he recorded more than 100 tackles. In 2015, when the Carolina Panthers finished the regular season 15-1 and ended up losing in the Super Bowl to the Denver Broncos, Davis had his best season and was named to the Pro Bowl and the All-Pro team.
