West Ham United lost a crucial home game Wednesday, thereby adding pressure to a side that is in danger of being relegated this season. The Hammers defeat came at the hands of Burnley, who currently sit in ninth place on the league standings.

The match, which took place at an empty London Stadium, was an incredibly tight one, with a 38th minute Jay Rodriguez header proving all the difference. Despite holding onto the majority of possession and taking 19 shots in comparison to Burnley’s eight, West Ham was unable to find the back of the net.

This result came as an incredible disappointment to West Ham United, who managed to grab an impressive 3-2 victory over Chelsea just a week earlier. Now, the Hammers remain in 16th place with 31 points – just four points ahead of Aston Villa and Bournemouth who are in the relegation zone.

Hammers’ manager David Moyes thought highly of his team’s performance on the day, explaining, “I thought it was more the first 20 minutes that we were not quite at it. They kept going for as long as they could and as well as they could. We allowed Burnley to start well, we didn’t. But we grew into it and over the piece I thought we were on a par with them if not better.”
