After the NBA laid out plans for its return, the WNBA is also on course to resume its activities in 2020. The league recently presented the players with an improved proposal for this season and there is reportedly optimism on both sides that a deal could be made soon.

According to ESPN’s Mechelle Voepel, the WNBA proposed a 22-game season that would start on July 24th at IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida. The offer includes commitment to pay the players their full salaries, as well as provide accommodation and food for them, their children, and a spouse or “significant other.”

Players who don’t want to participate due to health concerns would be able to opt-out without any consequences. They would only miss out on the salary they were due for the games they don’t play.

“It’s a very good proposal for the players, especially in comparison to other sports leagues,” unnamed WNBA agent told ESPN about the proposal. “No one will criticize anyone who doesn’t want to play. But the majority of players definitely want to play. And they appreciate the work that’s been done by the league, the union and the executive committee to get to this proposal.”

The Women’s National Basketball Players Association will vote on the proposal at some point before the end of the week. If the agreement is made, the official announcement should be expected on Monday.
