New York Yankees third baseman Gio Urshela, who turned in a fantastic 2020 season, is set to be out of all baseball-related activities for the next three months. This is due to a surgery he recently underwent to remove a bone chip from his right elbow.

The 29-year-old was bothered at times during the 2020 season by elbow discomfort, which was determined to be related to a bone chip in his throwing elbow. Urshela, in fact, missed eleven games in early September after requiring a trip to the 10-day injured list due to the injury.

Despite feeling discomfort, the Colombian third baseman turned in yet another excellent season in the 43 games that he managed to play. The defensive whiz was one of the best third basemen in the league based on Defensive Runs Saved, and also contributed big on offense, hitting .298 with a .363 on-base percentage, along with 6 home runs and 30 RBI.

Urshela is expected to return to the field at some point in early March, which would mean that he should be able to participate in at least part of Spring Training.

Barring any setbacks, the Yankees expect their star third baseman to be ready for the beginning of the upcoming season.
