The New York Yankees probably could’ve even believed it when they found out on Sunday that star starting pitcher Domingo German would have to head to the injured list with a hip flexor strain.

The Yankees have had horrible luck with injuries so far this season, losing key contributors such as Giancarlo Stanton, Gary Sánchez, and CC Sabathia for extended periods of time.

Now, they can add their ace and the MLB’s leader in wins with 9 to the list after German revealed that he has been dealing with hip problems for the past several weeks.

His performance had taken a hit in recent weeks, leading some to believe that he might have been covering up an injury. It turns out that they were right.

German was placed on the 10-day injured list due to his hip problem, but it’s not clear exactly how long his absence will last. In any case, for the time that he will be gone, they will miss his 9-win pedigree and his sub-4 ERA.

The team has called up left-handed pitcher Stephen Tarpley to replace German on the active roster for the time being. It’s yet to be determined who will take his slot in the Yankees’ starting rotation.
